Get Your Backups Offsite to Azure

Veeam® Cloud Connect for the Enterprise (VCC-E) – is an easy, efficient way to get backups offsite to Azure. Microsoft Azure Marketplace, customers can instantly provision cloud backup repositories and automatically move on premises backup archives to Azure. This powerful combination of Microsoft and Veeam provides enterprise customers with cost-effective Azure storage plus the granular recovery capabilities of Veeam.


Security: We keep your customer data safe

Microsoft has leveraged its decades-long experience building enterprise software and running some of the world’s largest online services to create a robust set of security technologies and practices. These help ensure that Azure infrastructure is resilient to attack, safeguards user access to the Azure environment, and helps keep customer data secure through encrypted communications as well as threat management and mitigation practices, including regular penetration testing.


Managing and controlling identity and user access to your environments, data, and applications by federating user identities to Azure Active Directory and enabling multi-factor authentication for more secure sign-in.


Encrypting communications and operation processes. For data in transit, Azure uses industry-standard transport protocols between user devices and Microsoft datacenters, and within datacenters themselves. For data at rest, Azure offers a wide range of encryption capabilities up to AES-256, giving you the flexibility to choose the solution that best meets your needs.


Securing networks. Azure provides the infrastructure necessary to securely connect virtual machines to one another and to connect on-premises datacenters with Azure VMs. Azure blocks unauthorized traffic to and within Microsoft datacenters, using a variety of technologies. Azure Virtual Network extends your on-premises network to the cloud through site-to-site VPN.


Managing threats. To protect against online threats, Azure offers Microsoft Antimalware for cloud services and virtual machines. Microsoft also employs intrusion detection, denial-of-service (DDoS) attack prevention, regular penetration testing, and data analytics and machine learning tools to help mitigate threats to the Azure platform.

You own your own data. With Azure, you have ownership of customer data—that is, all data, including text, sound, video, or image files and software, that are provided to Microsoft by you, or on your behalf, through the use of Azure. You can access your customer data at any time and for any reason without assistance from Microsoft. We will not use customer data or derive information from it for advertising or data mining.


You are in control of your data. Because the customer data you host on Azure belongs to you, you have control over where it is stored and how it is securely accessed and deleted.


How we respond to government and law enforcement requests to access data. When a government wants customer data—including for national security purposes—it must follow the applicable legal process, serving us with a court order for content or a subpoena for account information. If compelled to disclose customer data, Microsoft will promptly notify you and provide a copy of the demand, unless legally prohibited from doing so. We do not provide any government with direct or unfettered access to customer data except as you direct or where required by law.


Transparency: You know how your data is stored and accessed, and how we help secure it


Microsoft Azure is built on the premise that for you to control your own customer data in the cloud, you require visibility into that data. You must know where it is stored. You must also know, through clearly stated and readily available policies and procedures, how we help secure your customer data, who can access it, and under what circumstances. And don’t take our word for it: you can review the third-party audits and certifications that confirm that we meet the standards we set.


Compliance: We conform to global standards

Azure meets a broad set of international and industry-specific compliance standards, such as ISO 27001, HIPAA, FedRAMP, SOC 1 and SOC 2, as well as country-specific standards like Australia IRAP, UK G-Cloud, and Singapore MTCS.

Rigorous third-party audits, such as by the British Standards Institute, verify Azure’s adherence to the strict security controls these standards mandate. As part of our commitment to transparency, you can verify our implementation of many security controls by requesting audit results from the certifying third parties. When Microsoft verifies that our services meet compliance standards and demonstrates how we achieve compliance, that makes it easier for customers to secure compliance for the infrastructure and applications they run in Azure.


Cloud Storage for System Administrators


System administrators can perform common management tasks on Azure Storage including storage account and object management (including the ability to copy data to / from the cloud) using a variety of tools – Azure PowerShell, AzCopy, and the Node.js based Azure Cross-Platform Command-Line Interface (CLI).  Azure PowerShell is a module that provides cmdlets for managing services on Azure. It is a task-based command-line shell and scripting language designed especially for system administration. AzCopy is a command-line utility designed for high-performance uploading, downloading, and copying of massive data sets to and from Azure Storage. The Azure Cross-Platform CLI provides a set of open source, cross-platform commands for working with the Azure Platform.


Optimize access to Cloud Storage by using a CDN

By using Storage with the Azure CDN, developers have a global solution that enables you to send audio, video, applications, images, and other files faster and more reliably to customers using servers that are closest to each user. This dramatically increases speed and availability, resulting in significant user experience improvements. Thanks to its distributed global scale, Azure CDN was built to handle sudden traffic spikes and heavy loads, like the start of a major product launch or global sporting event, without new infrastructure costs or capacity worries. Active redundancy and failover support throughout the CDN network help assure reliability. The Azure CDN also provides additional security as it includes sophisticated DDoS identification and mitigation technologies to protect you, your partners, and your users. Azure CDN helps keep you up and running by identifying, absorbing, and blocking security threats.




Extend on-premises storage to the Cloud


StorSimple and Microsoft Azure offer a unique and integrated primary storage archival, and disaster recovery solution with Azure as the extension of on-premises storage.  The automated cloud snapshots in the StorSimple hybrid cloud solution replace costly off-site replication and time-consuming tape management. This solution is particularly well-suited for use in large file share document management and archiving applications where historical files are seldom accessed but need to be readily available.



Data mobility across multiple on-premises and cloud locations

The hybrid cloud storage solution from StorSimple and Azure enables mobility of data across multiple on-premises and cloud locations. Cloud snapshots enable data to be quickly cloned across physical and virtual appliances across multiple geographies. With disaster recovery scenarios integrated into the StorSimple solution, data can be seamlessly and quickly across physical or virtual devices in the event of a disaster in your primary datacenter.


Backup your Azure VM


Ensure the safety of your production applications running on virtual machines. Back up the virtual machine state, the OS state, and the associated data using the virtual machine backup service. You can get application-consistent backup data using VSS on Windows virtual machines, and file-system consistent backup data on Linux virtual machines – without having to shut down the VM during backup. Choose your backup time and how long you want to retain the data, and later follow a simple restore experience. To track long running operations, use the job view. This can all be done directly through the Microsoft Azure classic portal.



Backup your hybrid application and infrastructure


Deploy DPM to provide granular, application-aware backup of workloads running on-premises. Mirror the DPM deployment in Azure to get protection over Azure deployments. Complement this with infrastructure-level backup of virtual machines in Azure or on-premises, to get full coverage of data backed up and granularity at the time of restore. Send data quickly and retain data for long periods, to get an attractively priced replacement to tape infrastructure.



Increase the availability of on-premises Hyper-V or VMware virtual machines using Azure


Azure Site Recovery enables you to replicate your virtual machines hosted on a Hyper-v or VMware based infrastructure to Azure so that they are protected against any disaster. You can fail over the virtual machines to Azure at any time. The on-premises virtual machine replicates to the cloud and connects to a virtual network on failover. Failover of an application consisting of multiple virtual machines can be orchestrated by sequencing the order of failover of the virtual machines along with any necessary scripts and manual actions. Azure automation jobs can be added to automate post-failover tasks. You can also automate the movement of traffic from the on-premises site to an Azure site. The service provides the capability to do a planned migration or to create an environment for dev-test.



Protect Hyper-V or VMware virtual machines by replicating to another on-premises site


You can replicate your virtual machines hosted on a Hyper-v or VMware based infrastructure to another on-premises site owned by you or a service provider. You can fail over the virtual machines to another on-premises site whenever necessary. Azure provides the capability to manage compute, storage, and networks for disaster recovery. Compute, storage, and networks of the primary site can be mapped to compute, storage, and networks of the secondary site. You can manage protection and failover for scenarios where a storage array network (SAN) is used for replication. The virtual machines replicate to a secondary on-premises site and are started up on the secondary site on a failover. You can also automate the movement of traffic from the primary on-premises site to the secondary on-premises site on a failover.



U.S. public sector customers can use Azure Site Recovery (ASR) to protect their critical applications running on physical and virtual infrastructures, including Hyper-V and VMware. Some of the capabilities that come with ASR in Azure Government Cloud are:

  • Data security and secure transmission
  • Data is encrypted during transit and at rest in Azure.
  • Screened personnel
Azure Site Recovery operations and support in Azure Government cloud are performed by background-screened, U.S. citizen personnel.
